Founded in 1949 as a civic initiative, Auslandsgesellschaft.de e.V. emerged from the trauma of the Second World War and was driven by a profound desire for mutual understanding. These origins continue to shape its mission today: fostering intercultural understanding grounded in humanity and tolerance.
Our goal is to build bridges between people of diverse backgrounds—across nations, social systems, and cultures.
Auslandsgesellschaft.de has approximately 800 members, 40 employees across various departments, and around 80 dedicated volunteers.
In addition to student exchanges, the organization hosts events, readings, concerts, and discussion forums. It also arranges educational group trips for adults and offers courses in more than 18 languages at its language school.
